The benefits of a cosmic perspective

About this talk

Greg Quicke, aka Space Gandalf, offers a fresh perspective on our planet. He reminds us that, even though we know the Earth is a spinning sphere, we still often use flat Earth language.

With his calming voice, Greg describes how we are moving through space, and how we can change how we talk and think about it.

Imagine reclining in a deck chair, gazing up at the Milky Way, while Greg narrates the magic that comes with an awareness of our place in the universe.

About the speaker

Greg Quicke was an author, self-taught astronomer, and outback wanderer.

Growing up in southern Western Australia, Greg undertook a brief adventure in marine biology in north Queensland before returning to WA – this time to the Kimberley region.

It wasn’t long before the stars and planets captured Greg’s imagination. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Greg started running astronomy tours from Broome in 1995. One of the 100,000+ people who joined him under the stars happened to be a BBC TV producer. This saw Greg joining Professor Brian Cox as the Practical Astronomer for four seasons of the BBC and ABC TV’s Stargazing Live

Sadly, Greg passed away in 2024, aged 62.
