Nudity and revolution: How one photographer is challenging patriarchy

It started in 2018 with a photography project inspired by the #metoo movement.  

Since then, Lauren has combined art and activism, using photography as a transformative tool to empower women, heal trauma, and challenge systemic patriarchy.  

Lauren’s nude group photoshoots of women aim to replace the sexualised male gaze with the female gaze, advocating for body autonomy. 

This powerful, moving talk about gender, power and consent inspired a standing ovation.

Lauren Crooke is a prominent Perth photographer, known for combining her unique perspective of the female form with artistic composition.  

Through the power of photography, Lauren Crooke strips back – literally – the layers of systemic patriarchy and discrimination faced by women across the country. 

Lauren has built a portfolio of daring, large-scale photographs showing women and non-binary folk through the female gaze. These photographs form powerful and challenging statements on gendered oppression, violence and inequality. They have also been a source of healing for trauma.
