About this talk

Many of us feel strongly about the rights and wrongs of language.

Daniel believes not only is this concern misplaced, but that changing our views about it isn’t as impossible as it seems.

He shares his success in ‘ungrumping’ people about language, so they can learn to enjoy it more.

Daniel describes how allowing people to speak authentically, rather than judging them, can build connection and community.

About the speaker

Daniel is a linguist, author and science communicator, with deep ties to language education.

Daniel has taught linguistics—the science of language—at the University of Western Australia and Edith Cowan University. For years he has trained future teachers with the grammar knowledge they need to elevate grammar literacy among their students.

Daniel talks language and grammar on the Speakeasy on ABC Radio Perth and has a segment on ABC Radio Adelaide. He formerly presented on the RTRFM podcast Talk the Talk, a show about linguistics.
