TEDxPerth Inc. is a 100% volunteer-run, not-for-profit association registered in Western Australia. We are committed to protecting the privacy of your personal information. This policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in how we manage your personal information.
We have adopted the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act). The APPs govern how we collect, use, disclose, store, secure, and dispose of your personal information.

TEDxPerth will not sell your personal information under any circumstances.
What is personal information?
Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified individual. Examples of personal information that we collect include names, email addresses and phone numbers.
Our website
We make use of industry-standard technology, such as Google Analytics, which sets a cookie in your web browser that assists in providing aggregated reporting on how people use our website. We do not receive information on how individual users have used our website. TEDxPerth may publish or provide this aggregated data to third parties. If you contact us by completing a form on our website, we will collect personal information from you, including your name, email address and other information relevant to your enquiry. This information may be stored on the infrastructure provided by our web hosting company and will be subject to their privacy policy, which you can find at https://wpengine.com/legal/privacy/.
If you interact with us on social media, such as following one of our accounts, or liking or commenting on a post, then we may be able to see your identity on that platform as well as some aggregated audience statistics.

Our events
Ticketing
If you purchase a ticket to attend one of our events, we will collect personal information from you, such as your name, email address, phone number, dietary requirements and other relevant personal information.
We use a range of ticketing platforms, typically mandated by the venue, for the sale of tickets. We never handle your credit card or payment information – this is handled by the ticketing platform. The privacy policy of the specific ticketing platform used for the event will apply.
Databases
We use Microsoft applications when preparing for and operating our events, and some of your data may be stored in this environment. Access is restricted to our volunteers who reasonably need this information for the event. Images and Videos
TEDxPerth photographers and volunteers will take photos and videos at our events. These will be published on Flickr and other social media, and may be used for marketing purposes.
Videos of talks, which may show audience members, are uploaded to social media, including TED’s and/or TEDxPerth’s websites and YouTube channels. Individuals will not be identified by name without consent.
If we seek to video a ‘vox pop’ interview with you at an event, we will invite you to read and sign a media consent form.
Mailing lists and surveys
Under the terms of our licence, we are required to provide TED Conferences LLC (TED.com) with the email address of everyone who attends one of our events. After the event, TED.com will email you a survey link so that you can provide feedback on the quality of our event. Unless you opt out, we will subscribe you to our TEDxPerth mailing list. We may also email you a feedback survey after an event.
Our mailing list
If you choose to sign up to our mailing list, we will collect personal information from you, including your name and email address, so we can periodically send you email newsletters and other marketing materials.
You can opt out of our mailing list at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at bottom of every email newsletter or by contacting us through our website.
Our mailing list is hosted by Mailchimp and is subject to their privacy policy, which can be found at https://mailchimp.com/legal/.
We do not provide personal information held on our mailing list to any other parties.
Our speakers
If you are a speaker who contributes to a TEDxPerth event, you will be asked to sign a release form. This form details the agreement between you (the speaker) and TEDxPerth.
Examples of permitted uses include displaying your name and presentation on the TEDx YouTube channel, TEDxPerth’s website and TED’s website (TED.com), on television, and distributing the presentation on video distribution channels and/or through other third-party organisations (such as corporate partners).
By signing this form, you give full consent for TEDxPerth and TED to process, manage, store and transmit your personal information to third parties for permitted uses. Personal information collected includes your name, voice, photograph, likeness and biographical data.
Volunteering with TEDxPerth
We will collect a range of personal information if you apply to become a volunteer with TEDxPerth, including your name, email address, phone number, emergency contact details, LinkedIn profile and relevant experience. Any information that we collect is restricted only to those other volunteers that need it to assess your application and to appoint and support you in a volunteer role.

Sensitive information
Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act as information or opinion about such things as an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record or health information.
We only collect sensitive information in very rare circumstances, such as when a volunteer voluntarily discloses health information to enable us to better support their volunteering experience. Any sensitive information collected is held in the strictest confidence and disclosed only with the consent of the person who provided the information, or where required or authorised by law such as to emergency services personnel.
Security of personal information
Your personal information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We use technology such as multi-factor authentication whenever this is available from our technology providers. We disable the accounts of volunteers when they leave the organisation.
When your personal information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your personal information.
Access to your personal information
You may access the personal information we hold about you and request that is be updated, corrected or deleted. If you wish to access your personal information, please contact us in writing at [email protected].
TEDxPerth Inc. will not charge any fee for your access request. To protect your personal information we may require identification from you before releasing the requested information.
When information is deleted, it may take some time to be completely and permanently deleted in accordance with the data backup practices of our technology providers.
Anonymity
You have the right to choose not to identify yourself to us or to use a pseudonym when interacting with us. There will be some instances where this will mean we cannot provide you with a full level of service, such as resolving a complaint or registering as a volunteer or speaker.
