Annie Fogarty has been Executive Chairperson of the Fogarty Foundation since 2000, when she and her husband Brett established the foundation. The foundation aims to directly benefit individuals and the community through encouraging endeavours of excellence in education, leadership, the community and life. Having graduated with an Arts degree from the University of Western Australia, Annie’s work in marketing and public relations has primarily been in the tourism and arts sectors. In 2008, Annie and Brett were both awarded Honorary Doctorate Degrees in Letters from the University of Western Australia and Annie was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2013 for her services to education. Annie is involved in a number of boards and committees, including the Roseworth Primary School Board, the Fremantle Press Board, the University of Western Australia’s Senate Development Committee and the Centre for Social Impact WA Advisory Group. Annie has experience in public and private stakeholder engagement and liaison, project management and development of effective partnership relationships.

In this talk, Annie notes the essential role that education plays in society. She also argues that schools should function as a community hub whose role extends beyond simply teaching. She also provides practical tips on how we all can get involved in improving our education system.
