For thousands of years, the Whadjuk Nyoongar people have lived on the lands of Boorloo (Perth) and used yarning to pass history, culture and perspectives of the future between generations.

TEDxPerth acknowledges the Whadjuk Nyoongar people as the Custodians of these lands and waterways, and extends our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

About this event

On 25 November 2020, over 250 of WA’s most ambitious and forward-thinking leaders came together at Fraser’s State Reception Centre, Perth.

Following a powerful Welcome to Country by Carol Innes, guests heard some of WA’s biggest and boldest ideas on climate action.

These short powerful talks were complemented by the screening of an inspiring TED talk by Christiana Figueres, chief architect of the Paris Climate Agreement: The case for stubborn optimism on climate

This invitation-only, carbon-neutral event was part of TED’s 12-month global Countdown initiative, championing and accelerating solutions to the climate crisis.

Across our planet, Countdown aimed to build a better future by halving global greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in the race to a zero-carbon world – a world that is safer, cleaner and fairer for everyone.

The Countdown initiative was a collaboration with Christiana Figueres’ Global Optimism

In the words of guest curator, Mari Fatin: ‘If you take one thing from today, let it be “permission”. Permission to step up now to the most critical challenge of your career, knowing you are not alone and knowing it’s most certainly YOUR job.’

Your day at TEDxPerth will be a journey through ideas and innovations. Starting with a warm welcome and introductory session, you will be guided through a series of talks, with breaks to reflect, discuss, and network. The day concludes with a closing session, encapsulating the spirit of the day and leaving you inspired.
