Tim South opens TEDxPerth 2013 with a beautiful rendition of Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 on his carbon-fibre cello.

Tim South
Cellist

Tim South was born in 1965 and grew up in Melbourne. After he finished school he briefly studied electronic engineering at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, then changed paths entirely and decided to study music. In 1988 he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from the Victorian College of the Arts. That same year he toured Europe with the Australian Youth Orchestra, and auditioned successfully for a position with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, which he still holds. He has taught cello at Churchlands and Perth Modern schools, and continues to pursue chamber music interests. He purchased his Luis and Clark carbon fiber cello at the start of 2012 and has used it exclusively since then. He also owns a valuable French cello made in 1852 by Charles Adolphe Maucotel. In his spare time, Tim dabbles in web development and photography.
