For thousands of years, the Whadjuk Nyoongar people have lived on the lands of Boorloo (Perth) and used yarning to pass history, culture and perspectives of the future between generations.

TEDxPerth acknowledges the Whadjuk Nyoongar people as the Custodians of these lands and waterways, and extends our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

Balancing cultures: Walking in two worlds

About this talk

Jahna Cedar has spent a lifetime navigating the complexities of two distinct worlds: code switching.

She paints a vivid picture of the pressures of Western and cultural expectations, of unconscious bias and stereotypes, of lateral violence and cultural load.

It is a personal journey of unyielding determination and leadership, profound strength and resilience.

Jahna believes that for reconciliation to progress, a better understanding of code switching is needed. She shows us that a more inclusive future is possible, simply by embracing both our identity and our diversity.
