For thousands of years, the Whadjuk Nyoongar people have lived on the lands of Boorloo (Perth) and used yarning to pass history, culture and perspectives of the future between generations.

TEDxPerth acknowledges the Whadjuk Nyoongar people as the Custodians of these lands and waterways, and extends our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

About this talk

Content warning: This talk contains discussions of sexual abuse that could be distressing.

As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse (CSA), Kirsty Pratt has a profound understanding of the complex emotions involved in seeking justice.

Kirsty is living proof that one person’s actions can achieve positive change.

She successfully campaigned for the removal of the statute of limitations, allowing survivors to take legal action against perpetrators or institutions decades after the abuse occurred.

Kirsty wants to redirect the narrative away from the perpetrators, so our collective focus is on supporting survivors.

About the speaker

Driven by an overactive sense of justice, Kirsty Pratt has been an advocate and political activist in support of survivors of childhood sexual abuse for many years.

Kirsty successfully campaigned for laws that allow survivors of abuse in Western Australia to seek justice regardless of when the abuse occurred. She now applies these reforms in her role as a specialist law clerk for Perth law firm Bradley Bayly Legal.

Her team at Bradley Bayly has been awarded for ‘always sticking up for the little guy’. Through this work, she once briefly shared a podium with fellow law clerk, Erin Brockovich.
